DV Latency Adjuster is software which provides more accurate timing when working with movies in Mark of the Unicorn's Digital Performer 4.0 - 4.12, and viewing the movie externally over FireWire. This software compensates for the latency incurred by the FireWire transport, and by the DV converter, deck or camera being used to monitor the video signal from the movie.

Note that Digital Perfomer version 4.5 has addressed the issue of DV playback latency, so this utility is not needed if you are working with version 4.5 of DP. The current version of the DV Latency Adjuster will continue to be made available, for those who (for one reason or another) have decided not to upgrade, however no further enhancements are planned at this time. However, Digital Performer 4.5 has some very exciting new features and enhancements, and as we will be using it internally here at Jacklin Studios, we suggest that users of DP upgrade to this new release if the upgrade will work with their system and workflow.

Installation:

This installer installs the DV Latency Adjuster component and preferences pane. These items can be found at the following locations:

/Library/Components/DVLatencyAdjuster.component
/Library/PreferencePanes/DVLatencyAdjuster.prefsPane

To remove this software, delete both the component and preferences pane from the locations listed above.

Use:

Adjust the number of frames of latency incurred by your DV monitoring hardware, using the DVLatencyAdjuster preferences pane (in System Preferences). After adjusting this value, quit the application you are using for DV playback, and re-launch it for the changes to take effect.

Registration and Demo:

When the preference pane is first launched, a demo period of 14 days is established, during which time this software may be used (subject to the terms of the license agreement). The demo period offers full functionality, and the product will behave functionally the same during this period as when purchased and authorized with a serial number. After the demo period has expired, if the software has not been authorized with a serial number then the software becomes non-functional.

To use this software after the demo has expired, click on the "Website" button in the preference pane to visit the product website, and follow the links to purchase a license for the software. After you have purchased a license for the software, and obtained a serial number for authorized use, click on the "Register" button in the preference pane, and enter your name a serial number in the window that appears.
